Higasa parasols are originally made for protection against the sun, but I believe that it does have to be restricted to that purpose. It can be used as a fashion item to bring out female attractiveness or as an interior objet with a Japanese taste.
I would like to introduce my works I have shown in the June 2017 exhibition "Retour du Bonheur -Reencounter with Happiness- Tamio Shibata's Kimono Parasol Exhibition." Mingling the elements of the west with the traditional beauty of Japan, I created a new style of higasa parasol with the essence of Japan and the west.
Higasa parasols are everyday items for women in the summer in Japan, but at the same time, should be an item of beauty to bring out the most of the women's attractiveness. I hand craft each of my parasol to realize the "beauty of utilitarian objects." Please step into Tamio Shibata's world of KIMONO HIGASA.
